A Walk in Gracie's Shoes

In this episode, we dive deep into the world of surfboard shaping with Mick Grace. From his early days shaping under Jim Pollard’s watchful eye to his groundbreaking innovations, Mick’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. He shares tales of crafting channel bottoms, designing high-performance 5 and 7 fin surfboards, and creating radical step-deck designs perfect for the smallest Sunny Coast waves.

We also hear gripping stories of surfing in Wurtulla before it became known, facing sharks at Old Woman Island (Kong’s Island), and witnessing the legendary Col Smith of Newcastle riding Mick’s boards in Hawaii. Mick’s insights into the unique surfer/shaper relationship highlight the artistry and passion behind custom surfboards.

Despite his immense contributions, Mick remains humble about his competitive surfing skills and the significant impact he has had on the surfboard industry.
